Garwood Elementary opened in the fall of 1991.

Since its opening Garwood Elementary has had 2 additions of classrooms and a lunchroom remodel.
The school cannot be enlarged any further.

The beginning enrollment for the 2008-2009 school year was 353 students.

Beginning class size averages were:

First Grade has an additional half time teacher in the morning to assist with core subject instruction. This means, in the a.m. class size ratios are actually 17:1.

Second and Third grade have a teacher that teaches Reading and Language Usage ½ day at each grade level. So, for half the day these class sizes are significantly smaller. Because ability levels are a part of creating their grade level reading groups class sizes can not be broken down like at other grade levels.

Garwood Elementary is served by a total staff of 46.
