First Move is an all inclusive program; teachers receive curriculum, chess sets and boards, a demonstration board, DVDs with the curriculum, a DVD player, teacher training, ongoing mentoring, an online community and online chess play for all students. Each student also receives his or her own personal chess set to take home.  

First Move is offered in 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms, one hour per week during the school day, so all students receive the benefits. Even teachers who had never played chess before have extremely high praise for the program.  Survey results have shown that 92 percent of First Move teachers rated the program “a valuable use of classroom time,” and they “would recommend First Move to other schools and teachers.”
